Chartering a yacht is one of the most memorable ways to see Istanbul, but first-time guests are often unsure where to start. How big should the yacht be? Is two hours enough? What should the price include? This guide answers the questions we hear most often from guests planning a charter on the Bosphorus, so you can compare offers with confidence and book the cruise that really suits your group.

1. How many guests – and how will they spend the time?

Group size decides the yacht, but so does the type of event. Ten friends watching the sunset need far less deck space than ten colleagues sitting down to a three-course dinner. As a rule of thumb, count on about one square metre of deck per standing guest and a full seat at the table for every diner. A cocktail party for 60 and a seated dinner for 57 can both fit on our 24-metre yacht; a small family will simply enjoy the extra room. See our notes on a yacht for 10 people.

2. How long should the charter be?

3. Which time of day?

Mornings bring calm water and soft light, perfect for breakfast cruises. Midday is best for long lunches and swimming in July and August. The hour before sunset is the most requested slot of the year, so book it early – our sunset times by month help you pick the right start. After dark, the bridges and palaces are illuminated and the city feels completely different.

4. What should the price include?

When comparing quotes, check whether the price is for the whole yacht or per person, and whether captain, crew and fuel are included. Ask about the minimum number of hours, extra charges for weekends or special dates, and how food is priced. A transparent quote lists the yacht price, the menu per guest and any extras separately. Our own rate is €350 per hour for the whole yacht with crew and fuel included – full details on the yacht rental per hour page.

5. Where does the yacht depart from?

Most charters leave from marinas and piers along the European shore – Kuruçeşme, Bebek, Arnavutköy or Karaköy. A departure point close to your hotel saves time in traffic; some operators can also pick you up from a pier on the Asian side. We are based in Bebek and Arnavutköy, in the most scenic part of the Bosphorus.

6. One yacht or a whole fleet?

For most private groups a single, well-equipped yacht is the right choice. Large conferences, incentive groups or weddings with very different guest numbers sometimes need several boats, or a smaller yacht for a quieter dinner and a larger one for the party afterwards. Agencies with a fleet can compare options side by side – for example, Acetes Travel lists several boats of different sizes for an Istanbul yacht charter when one yacht is not enough.

7. Food, drinks and celebrations

Decide early whether you want snacks, a seated meal or finger food, because the menu shapes the timing of the cruise. On our yacht the chef prepares menus on board from €30 per person, each with unlimited soft drinks, and the chef is free for groups of 15 or more. Cakes, flowers, decorations, a photographer or a DJ should be requested at least a few days in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a yacht charter in Istanbul?

For summer weekends and sunset slots, two to four weeks ahead is wise. In autumn and winter a few days is often enough, except for New Year’s Eve.

Is an Istanbul yacht charter priced per person?

Private charters are usually priced for the whole yacht. Always check whether a quote is per yacht or per person and whether fuel and crew are included.

Can we swim during a yacht charter?

Swimming is possible on longer summer charters in suitable spots away from the busy shipping lanes, depending on weather and the captain’s decision.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The Bosphorus is sheltered and most charters run in light rain. If the captain decides conditions are unsafe, the cruise is moved to another date.
